IMIT: Signing of new agreements

With the aim of strengthening the institutional ties between IMIT and QUIMOBI, on March 20, 2025, authorities from CONICET and the Regional University of Resistencia signed two collaboration agreements to develop research in key areas.

Marcelo Espínola, from IMIT's Technology Outreach Department, tells us about the signing of agreements to expand joint activities between the Institute for Modeling and Technological Innovation (IMIT) (Conicet) and the Center for Research in Biological Organic Chemistry (QUIMOBI) of the National Technological University of Resistencia, Chaco.

This time, the two collaboration agreements are being signed to develop research in key areas:

  • the production of biodegradable bioplastics from abundant waste in the region, with the goal of reducing dependence on conventional petroleum-derived plastics, thus minimizing the carbon footprint and environmental impact associated with both their production and disposal;
  • the optimization of the use of residual biomass through pyrolysis processes, seeking to obtain high-value-added products and mitigate the environmental impact of organic waste management.

Both agreements have the following background:

  • CONICET and the NATIONAL TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY signed a Framework Agreement for Reciprocal Cooperation and Technical Assistance on September 6, 1994, which is still in force.
  • Under this agreement, in September 2014, CONICET and the NATIONAL TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY signed a five-year Specific Agreement to combine efforts, capabilities, and resources in the area of chemistry and technological innovation. As a result, CONICET designated the Institute for Modeling and Technological Innovation (IMIT) as the Executing Unit, and the National Technological University designated the Center for Research in Organic Biological Chemistry (QUIMOBI).

This new collaboration represents a valuable contribution to the process of scientific and technological integration between these institutions, aimed at the development of the region.
