Closing Ceremony - International Year of Quantum Science and Technology

Last Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the Institute of Modeling and Technological Innovation (IMIT) held a closing ceremony for a cycle that has left a significant mark on our scientific and academic community. The ceremony, held in the FaCENA UNNE Postgraduate Classroom, provided an opportunity to celebrate the results of a year of intensive learning and collaboration.

The day began with a moment of great solemnity and unity: the singing of the Argentine National Anthem, led by Dr. Germán Torres and fervently accompanied by all those present.

The event was honored by the presence of the Vice Governor of the Province of Corrientes, Dr. Néstor Pedro Braillard Poccard. We were also honored by the presence of authorities from the National University of the Northeast (UNNE) and research centers:

  • Dr. Gustavo Aucar, Director of the Institute of Technology (IMIT).
  • Eng. Mario Eduardo De Bortoli, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.
  • Dr. José Luis Fontana, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences (FaCENA).
  • Dr. Viviana Solís Neffa, Postgraduate Secretary of FaCENA.
  • Dr. Sylvina Casco, Vice Director of the Center for Economic and Social Sciences (CECOAL).

After the opening remarks, the session with authorities began. Dr. José Luis Fontana and Eng. Mario Eduardo De Bortoli shared their reflections on the importance of inter-institutional collaboration. Dr. Gustavo Aucar, for his part, provided an overview of the significance of this thematic year for the development of quantum sciences in the region. It is worth noting that Dr. Braillard Poccard attended the entire event, reaffirming the government's support for local science.

With the aim of integrating researchers and students from various locations, the event was broadcast live virtually, allowing for broad participation via the Google Meet platform.

The event was hosted by Claudia Lovera, who expressed her gratitude to the Communications team for their professional coverage, enabling the event's reach to extend beyond the institution's walls.

As a grand finale, Alejandro Maldonado delivered the keynote address of the day, entitled "Some Applications of Quantum Mechanics to Molecular Systems," in which he addressed the current advances and challenges facing Quantum Science in the global context.

Science and Art in Harmony: One of the highlights was the artistic performance that explored the connections between these two ways of understanding the universe. The Vice Director of IMIT, Dr. Germán Torres, along with Juan Manuel Rios, a Physics student, performed the classical piece "Musica Proibita" on piano.

"Musica Proibita" is one of the most beloved Italian songs in the classical repertoire. Composed in 1888 by Stanislao Gastaldon, it belongs to the salon romance genre, which was very popular in its time.
