The Schools of Mathematics of Latin America and the Caribbean were created by a decision of the 2nd General Assembly of the Mathematical Union of Latin America and the Caribbean (UMALCA) in 1998. Its main objective is to contribute to the development of Mathematics in all regions of the continent, especially in Central America and the Caribbean, letting young people to be in touch with relevant issues of current interest and encouraging the most prominent among them to continue their postgraduate studies.
