Seminar: Quantum Spin Control
The Institute of Modeling and Technological Innovation (IMIT, CONICET-UNNE) held another edition of its Institutional Seminar series with a presentation by Dr. Alejandro Ferrón, titled "Quantum Spin Control on Surfaces through Quantum Interference." The event brought together professors, researchers, and students both in person at the FaCENA Postgraduate Classroom and virtually via Google Meet.


The Institutional Seminar on Quantum Spin Control on Surfaces was held last Wednesday, August 26th, featuring a presentation by Dr. Alejandro Ferrón. In a hybrid format, the seminar addressed advances in quantum manipulation at the atomic scale and its application in the development of quantum information technologies.
Atomic Manipulation and Quantum Technologies: During his presentation, Dr. Ferrón discussed the possibility of controlling atomic spins using the tip of an electron scanning tunneling microscope (ESR-STM). Throughout the talk, recent advances in the quantum control of individual atoms and small atomic arrays were analyzed, demonstrating how the electric field generated by the tip allows for the efficient manipulation of their states through quantum interference.
Additionally, proposals and experimental results obtained in systems of Fe and Ti atoms arranged on insulating surfaces were presented. Towards the end, a protocol for the remote control of atomic qubits was detailed, aimed at significantly reducing the effects of decoherence and increasing the efficiency of quantum devices.
Exhibitor's career Dr. Alejandro Ferrón has a degree and PhD in Physics from FaMAF (National University of Córdoba). He carried out postdoctoral stays at the Bariloche Atomic Center and the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (Portugal). Currently, he works as Full Professor at FaCENA-UNNE and Independent Researcher of CONICET at IMIT, with recognized scientific production in nanodevices, spintronics and quantum information in international journals such as Science, Physical Review Letters and Physical Review Research.
