Last Wednesday, December 10, the Institute of Modeling and Technological Innovation (IMIT - CONICET/UNNE) celebrated the closing of its 2025 Institutional Seminar Series with a top-tier event. The final session was marked by a fascinating presentation delivered and moderated by Dr. Oscar Orfeo, who emphasized the thematic continuity of this meeting with the previous year's activities. The seminar, titled "Origin and Evolution of Mammals in the Cenozoic of South America: A Unique Evolutionary Laboratory," was led by Dr. Alfredo Zurita.

Last Wednesday, December 10, the Institute of Modeling and Technological Innovation (IMIT - CONICET/UNNE) celebrated the closing of its 2025 Institutional Seminar Cycle with a top-tier event.
Dr. Zurita is a leading figure in his field, with a solid scientific career spanning more than 20 years dedicated to unraveling the secrets of fossil fauna. His academic profile is outstanding. A Principal Investigator at CONICET's CECOAL and a Full Professor at UNNE, he has published over 135 scientific papers and has been instrumental in the training of new researchers by supervising numerous doctoral theses.
During his presentation in the Postgraduate Classroom of FACENA (UNNE), Dr. Zurita guided the in-person and virtual attendees on a journey through 37 million years. He explained how South America's status as an "island continent" allowed for the emergence of unique mammal lineages, and analyzed the crucial impact of the closure of the Isthmus of Panama on the Great American Biotic Interchange.
This free and open event served as the closing activity for the year, reaffirming IMIT's commitment to disseminating world-class science.
